Police Video featuring Finesse Windows & Doors

West Midlands Police force have recently published a video showing some valuable tips on keeping your property safe. And guess whose windows and doors are featured in the video? Well, it’s ours, naturally!

Conservatory Choices

Thinking of investing in a conservatory for your home but don’t know
which type to buy or who to trust?

Then take a look at our 6 golden rules:

1) clearly define what you intend to use the conservatory for. 
This is absolutely crucial. Once you know exactly what you want to do in your conservatory most of the options available to you become very simple to choose from.

2) decide on the shape of the base.
If you have decided to that you are building a conservatory for occasional use and perhaps only want to put a couple of chairs in there to enjoy those quiet Sunday mornings with a newspaper then a Victorian shape is ideal. If however you intend to use the conservatory everyday then you may wish to build a rectangular shaped structure like a lean-to or Edwardian conservatory. These types of conservatory are ideal if you’re intending to furnish it with a large corner sofa.

3) think about heating options.
It is very important to get this bit right. A conservatory that is too cold to use in the Winter is a waste of money, as is a conservatory that is unbearably hot in the Summer. It is therefore advisable to consider air  conditioning units, underfloor heating and solar control glass for the  roof.

4) choose your conservatory specialist carefully.
A good conservatory specialist company will be able to advise you on all the technical aspects that you may not necessarily know about. Planning consent issues, correct building practices for the base, wind load calculations for the roof design, security considerations, these are all important things that need to be considered when building a properly designed conservatory that is fit for purpose. If your chosen conservatory provider is not talking to you about these aspects then alarm bells should start to ring!

5) ask to see where your conservatory is coming from.
For your own peace of mind it is always worth visiting your conservatory specialist’s premises. You wouldn’t dream of spending £10,000 or £15,000 or more on any item with somebody you didn’t feel comfortable with. Why should a conservatory purchase be any different? Do your homework and visit the factory/showroom and see for yourself if you still feel comfortable with your choice of company.

6) ask to visit 3 customers.
Any conservatory specialist worth its salt should be delighted to take you to 3 previous customers homes to show you the quality of the work you can expect in your home. If a company is reluctant to do this for you then you know there is something wrong. Ask the customers face to face how the entire process was handled and if they have had occasion to use the after sales service. There’s nothing like hearing true life experiences from real customers, you’ll soon learn if your chosen supplier is worthy of your hard-earned cash. If you stick to these 6 golden rules you should find that your conservatory becomes a valuable addition to your home and your life.
